LIVE WELL ~ LAUGH OFTEN ~ LOVE MUCH

THE EVERYDAY GOINGS ON IN THE LIFE OF A WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, DAUGHTER, SISTER, AUNT & FRIEND

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Had a nice quiet day at home with the kids. They're both feeling a little bit better today.

We had a hunt for all the halloween or fall themed books in the house. When we rounded up all the books and finished with baths, we plugged the jack-o-lantern in and read all the stories... they really enjoyed the festivities. Sophia took her medicine for me without too much of a problem today.

Nana stopped by for a few hours (she was tired after cleaning up after a flood she had in her basement this morning.)
Jenn & I ordered Gino's tonight and Nick came for dinner.

Kept Sophia home from nursery school today due to her ear infection and wheezing. We took a walk with Mary for awhile to get out since the weather was nice and it's going to be raining for the next few days. Larry came by after his work was done. Nico has been using the potty for the last few days, and he went three times today! That is my photo of the day

My babies both have runny noses and as the day progressed, Sophia got crankier and sicker.
katie took her to the Dr after work and she has an ear infection and wheezing. She had a nebulizer treatment earlier today and then again at the Dr. We will stay in again tomorrow and do puzzles, coloring and TV.

The kids both have colds so we took it pretty easy today. After nursery school and lunch, we all baked banana bread. Katie had another Dr appointment after work, so they were missing her but we kept them busy and happy. It's nice to have a few back ups (Larry & Jenn).

34 Years together!

Today we celebrated our 34th anniversary. Larry bought me flowers and strawberries and whipped cream with coffee and rolls for breakfast.
I went for a manicure and pedicure while Larry was packing for his car shows.
The kids came by with an anniversary card and gift and spent some time wih us. Later we had a nice romantic dinner at Vittorios in Amityville.

Jenn & I went to LongBeach today...She is looking for an apartment to rent. We looked at a few, but the rents are kind of high. We had lunch at the Beach house. She'll keep looking til she finds something that's affordable.
We stayed in tonight and the kids visited for a little while.

Sophia and Nico had a play date with Dylan at Washington Ave Park...we packed a lunch and enjoyed the visit together. dylan's grandma is a friend of mine that I met through nursery school many years ago when our own children went there.

Larry and I had a quiet dinner at Palmers tonight.

Went to beach. Kids enjoyed playing in the sand...Got windy and our umbrella blew away so we had to leave it down. It was kind of restful because Nana and I got to sit in our chairs and just watch the kids play.

Went to dinner at the good Life with Kathy & Tom this evening.

Had dinner with my friends from RKS...It's always a pleasure getting together with this group. We were celebrating Helen's birthday tonight. Enjoyed dinner at Portofino in Levittown.

backyard picnic on the swing set

We had a picnic lunch today in the backyard. We actually ate up on the swing set platform. Sophia begged me to go on a picnic so this was it! we packed up her favorite picnic basket and headed outside. We all enjoyed it and read 3 stories while having lunch.
Later we went to the dollar tree and the kids were given $2 each to pick out 2 items...Sophia picked out a note pad shaped like a basketball and a box of jiffy blueberry muffin mix, Nico picked out a storybook about a train and a matchbox firetruck.
Aunt Kathy stopped by later and we had coffee together with Nana.

Had a nice walk with Nico and Mary this morning...Nico slept for about an hour during our walk after he ate the goldfish crackers that Mary gave him.
When Larry finished his work day, we took the kids to Washington Ave park and had a wonderful afternoon. Jenn surprised us and came down to the park for a while.

Went to Brady Park this morning and had coffee and bagels. It was nice having a picnic breakfast! The weather was beautiful, sunny and crisp. There were so many walkers, joggers, bikers on the path around the lake, it was nice to see everyone taking advantage of this beautiful park and day! We walked around two times and got some exercise in.

Worked around the house this morning, then went to the beach for a walk with Larry. We discovered that we no longer have our beach pass. ( Sophia opened the car window the other day, and it must have blown out!) Stopped and had an ice cream cone on the boardwalk and finished our mile and 1/2 walk. (Larry hasn't walked in a while so we took it easy on the milage!)

We were so tired that we fell asleep watching TV and then went to dinner at Houlihans.

Sophia enjoyed her first full day of school... she had show and tell, a birthday party and did cutting and pasting.
Pat stopped by with her granddaughter Sophia, and the kids played for a while together outside.
Larry and I went out to Palmer's for dinner and had a fun time ...they had a singer who was really good- Jack Fontana was his name.

Had a good day... went to Washington Ave Park with the kids & Nana. They loved it and had a great time playing. We did the health path which had different stretches and activities to do. The kids did it with me. (modified version of course) We went down by the baseball field and the little ones had fun running the bases.
This evening we had a big storm pass through... it got very dark and windy and started to rain heavily. Some areas in queens were thought to have a tornado and many trees were down.

Met Mary for a walk with the double stroller and Sophia and Nico. We walked and talked for about an hour. We still didn't catch up on our summers with all we had to talk about but will get together next Monday and resume our conversation.

Katie had back to school night at work so we kept the kids for dinner and made bowties and meatballs. They ate pretty good! Chris was delayed at work and picked them up at about 7:45.

I had a 12 and 1/2 hour day with them and although I was pretty tired, they were really very good all day!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Enjoyed the children so much today, they are really growing up and learning to follow directions. Each morning they help me clean up the kitchen after breakfast. One will wash the table while the other sweeps the floor. While Nico napped, Sophia and I colored and made pictures with stickers. She loves doing crafty things with her grandma!

Nana and I took them to burger king for lunch and they played on the playground there.
Larry and I went out to Bed, Bath and beyond and bought some kuerig cffees and a few other things we needed. Afterwards, we went to dinner at Applebees.

Sophia had her 1st day back to Nursery school today!
She loves her new teacher and was really looking forward to get back to school. I took some photos out on her front steps but wasn't able to photograph her at school because it was rainy.
She seemed to enjoy the first day back. We were planning on taking a walk with Mary after school but the weather wasn't too good so we'll do it another day soon.

Katie and the kids had dinner with us tonight and we made chicken with broccoli, rice and green beans sauted with garlic and olive oil. Sophia helped me make banana bread for dessert.

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Watched the kids this morning so Chris and Katie could ride out to the outlets for shopping.

We made fresh waffles and had a nice breakfast. They had fun singing "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar"...We all played along for awhile and Nico kind of got the hang of it.
Chris and Katie got home around 1 just in time to watch the Giant game.

I worked on getting my scrapbook room back to order after it has become a large closet where everyone put anything they no longer needed. It's coming along nicely, I just have to get rid of some more useless items.

Remembering nine years ago today

Today is the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the US where 4 planes were hijacked and 2 of them flew into the twin towers of the world trade center. One flew into the Pentagon and the other crashed in Shanksville Pa. after a group of passengers got together to try and retake control of the plane as it was being directed toward Washington DC. There were over 3,000 lives lost on that day.
Today the weather was the same as the day of these attacks... Beautiful, crisp and sunny day without a cloud in the sky. God bless the USA! We will never forget this day.

Larry and I took a ride to the North Fork and spent the day out East. We went to a Church sale we found along the way, then to a few farmstands(had a roasted ear of corn as we sat outside on this glorious day) and then had lunch at Hellenic snack bar in Marion by Orient Point. It was a nice and relaxing way to spend the day. As always we stopped in Mattituck at the chocolate shop for candy, and at the Magic Fountain for an ice cream cone.
