We woke up to the sweet aroma of French toast that Joan and Ron had prepared for us for breakfast. We really enjoyed sitting out under the gazebo and having our first cup of coffee. The day was a beautiful one... warm and sunny. We felt as though we were at a resort and fully enjoyed going inside and having a lovely breakfast which also included fresh bagels that Pat had brought.

When it was time to leave, we decided that we would try to do this again one day next week, before the summer is over. We drove Mom home and did some "merry maids" cleaning for her.

I brought home some photos that I borrowed from Joan ... She had shown us some old photos from our days on the ding-a-lings softball team. We had fun looking over them and remenicing about the good old days.

Katie and the kids had been away at the Great wolf Lodge for the last few days so they stopped over to visit with us for awhile this evening. They really missed us!

We picked Mom up and headed to Joan's. We had a nice lunch and Mom was happy to see our surprise guest!...Joan had gotten in touch with an old friend Joan L who we haven't seen in about 3 years.

Needless to say we had a few laughs as we caught up with each other.
We didn't get to go swimming at all as it was an overcast day, but we played games inside til 2:am. Karen had to be to work the next day for her last day of summer school so she left at 1:30 am. We all brought aero beds and stayed over night in the den.

Paint, paint and more paint

Painted all morning. After finishing the ceiling, I painted 2 radiator covers and the cabinet doors in the den. It was such a hot and humid day, that I was happy to stay inside with the air conditioner. Larry & I went shopping at BJ's to pick up a few things that we were out of.
Spoke to my three sisters today, we're planning a nice day together tomorrow!

Sanded and respackled the den. It's starting to look so much better already.
Babysat for my 2 grandchildren this afternoon. I enjoyed them so. We did puzzles, painted, colored and played with bubbles and Thomas the train.
Larry & I went out to Ruby Tuesday for dinner and I really enjoyed salad bar and sliders!

We spackled the ceiling in the den in preparation for painting. It had peeled a bit from a leak we had and we are finally going to fix it!

Later we polished some brass in the backyard that we had removed from some doors. It was a good day to catch up with some home improvements. We even emptied out Larry's trailer and organized it a bit.

Later we had a pizza and invited grandma Angie over.

Got some shopping done this morning, then went to our friend's backyard after wedding party.
It was another glorious day here ...the weather was perfect! They had such a nice spread of food and we had a nice time. We only planned on staying for an hour but ended up staying til about 9PM.

Friday the 13th! 2010

Had my hair trimmed for the wedding tonight. Will go back in a few weeks to have my color touched up.

We had such a great time at our friend's son's wedding.
The bride and groom looked gorgeous! It was held at the Carlyle on the green and it was such a beautiful night for the wedding ...the heat finally broke and it was dry and cloudless.
This was a fun event...there was a lot of dancing going on!

Went to the park and pool with Jenn, Katie and the kids. We had intended on using the pool but the weather was cloudy and cool so we just used the park and had a picnic. It was a fun day we took a walk around the park through the woods, crossing the stream. The kids enjoyed counting all the different kinds of animals we saw.
Later I made a pot roast and the kids all came for dinner.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 I said yes to the dress!

Went shopping at Roosevelt Field to find a dress for an upcoming wedding. After trying on a few dresses in Macy's, I decided to look in a few other stores. I ended up coming back to Macy's and buying one of the 3 dresses that I liked. I was able to get 30 % off because it had a slight pull in the back, and I mentioned that I forgot my coupons so I got 10% for the little pull and another 20% off (coupon). I was very pleased with the final cost!

Went for a walk tonight after dinner and brought my cell phone with me for safety since it was dark out. I called Meg and talked for 15 minutes and then called my sister and talked for another 15 minutes. It was great to get my phone calls done while I was walking.

Went to out to lunch and to the movies with Jenn. We went into Rockville Centre and had lunch at Cabo, a mexican restaurant. We enjoyed the chips and salsa with our strawberry margherittas, then had our meals of tacos and Quessadillas. We had some time to spare so we stayed in RVC and did some shopping at a little store called "Guilty Indulgence" and bought a cute evening bag for an upcoming wedding that I'm going to.

We drove to Lynbrook where we saw Eclipse, the 3rd movie in the Twilight series.
All in all it was a fun Mother/Daughter day out!

Finished painting den wall today... now all I have to do is the ceiling and moldings!

I like the color change! I went just a bit darker on the bottom half of the walls below the chair rail.

Went shopping for gift cards to send Shannon while she's in Pittsburgh caring for her brother Shawn. Spoke to Shannon today and Shawn is making some improvements but still has a long way to go. He's able to walk with help and is speaking. I picked up gift cards to Panera Bread and Chipolte.

Larry took Mom out to buy a new refrigerator this morning. While he was gone, I taped the den and then did the "cutting in" with the new paint. Larry had spackled a crack in the wall and we decided to change the bottom wall color to a shade darker.

Afterwards, we went to Jones Beach with Katie and the kids and had a fun afternoon in the water and playing in the sand!

Had a wonderful breakfast this morning in the Dining Room at the Nittany Lion Inn. The food was so good and the atmosphere was so cozy and lovely. We had eaten here before when Jenn was in Penn State and we visited her for Thanksgiving.

We drove through town on our way out of Penn state and saw all the familiar places like the Allen Street Grill.

We headed to the car show at Mcungie Pa., and stayed there for a while. The show has changed since the years when we used to vend there. There were many empty spots and not much buying going on. It was sad to see how the show had declined. We had a nice ice cream cone before leaving and then headed home.

Larry & I went on a road trip this morning to a town in pennsylvania called Lewistown. Larry had arranged to meet a man in his shop to buy some kits for his carburetor repairs. The man's shop was a huge warehouse full of auto parts and the building was built before the cival war!

It was an interesting afternoon and we left with many boxes full of kits.

We drove to Penn State and decided to stay at the Nittany Lion Inn. We relaxed in the bar called Whiskers for awhile, then got ready for dinner. We took a walk outside and visited the Lion shrine and took photos. We had dinner at the bar in Whiskers and had a fun night.

Mom's sister, Jackie is moving to buffalo to be near her son and daughter-in-law...
Today was the day we went to say good-bye to her and Uncle George
Joan, Kathy, Mom & I went to their house in Babylon and spent about. 3 hours chatting. We knew that they still had some packing to do so we decided it was time to leave...It was so sad to see the sisters saying good-bye to each other... We all hope that they will enjoy their new home and life style. They will be in a beautiful apartment in an assisted living. We enjoyed seeing our cousin Jana who we haven't seen in 5 years, and her sister-in-law, Kathy.
After saying good-bye to all, we went to lunch at the Argyle Grill nearby, and enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine and having a nice meal together.
